Hi, I'm
Allyson York I'm the owner of York & Yours, a small business founded in the state of Colorado and now currently operating out of Los Angeles, California. I have been an educator and an instructional designer for over 9 years. I love designing training material and developing curricula to fit the needs of diverse learners.
We want to specialize in bringing industry-standard e-learning authoring tools and products to higher education in STEM, but we won’t limit our business there. We have a lot to offer our community and we want to seize this unique and challenging opportunity to help alleviate the burdens of creating distance learning material. |
About Me
Since childhood, I've had a fascination with how people learn and helping people reach their personal goals.
When I was attending California State University, Long Beach for my B.S. in Biochemistry, I was a tutor and supplemental instruction leader for various subjects, including chemistry, biology, and calculus. As an SI leader, I created all of my own curriculum for Chem 101 and Chem 140 (a special condensed chemistry course for pre-nursing majors which spanned general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry). That was one of the most fun jobs I've ever had! I loved developing active learning modules, graphic organizers, and walking students through the process of solving word problems and naming organic molecules.
I obtained my Single-Subject Teaching Credential in 2015, also at California State University, Long Beach. I taught high school chemistry via project-based learning in Hawthorne, CA for one year before deciding to pursue a graduate degree in chemistry, as a part of my plan to become an educator at the collegiate level. During this time, I created all of my PBL materials from scratch and developed all of my curriculum on my own, which I loved.
I graduated from Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO in 2019 with my M.S. in Chemistry. While there, I was a laboratory teaching assistant for all three years, and taught over 300 students. Although I didn't have much freedom with curriculum development in that position, I was able to focus on active learning principles and fully engaging with my students in a small class setting. I also helped students improve their technical writing skills and held many workshops about how to graph pKa data with Excel.
Throughout my graduate program, I realized what the role of a professor was, and I noticed that it involved fewer opportunities to teach classes and develop curriculum than I had originally hoped. I decided to pivot my career from chemistry instruction to instructional design, a career move which turned out to be quite fruitful!
I began my instructional design career at DISH Network, where I quickly became one of my team's experts in Articulate Storyline and Rise. I also utilize Camtasia and Adobe tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I love the creativity that instructional design allows me to explore.
Since starting my business, I have developed engaging e-learning content for several clients, including:
And that's where YOU come in! Will you be next? I want to help others design their own curriculum because it is not easy to do. It doesn't come naturally to a person simply because they are a subject-matter expert (SME). However, developing learning materials does come naturally to me, because I have a passion for it, and I have a proven track record of success.
From my pen to your class / office / team, let me help you!
